Despite the university’s rapid growth, each Tarleton State Texan continues to receive the same personalized care and support.

With such a bustling campus culture and an ever growing off-campus experience, the true question becomes “what can I truly expect on my first day of class?”
Welcome To Your First Day of School
So it’s the first day of class, typically referred to as the “first day of 13th grade”, and you’re likely up bright and early!
You throw on the outfit you laid out the night before and pack up your backpack, likely off to meet your new besties by the ring statue for a first day of school photo.
After getting the PERFECT Instagram-worthy photo (and tagging @tarletonbound), you head off to your first class where you’ll walk through the syllabus and that’s when it sets in that you are truly a Tarleton State Texan.

You find the building, maybe double-check the room number (just to be safe), and slide into your seat, taking it all in as your first college class begins. You glance around at the faces that will soon become familiar, open up your laptop or notebook, and settle in as your professor starts walking through the syllabus.
They explain expectations, assignments, and what the semester will look like, but it’s more than that. You start to realize this isn’t just a lecture hall full of strangers. It’s a space where your ideas matter, where questions are encouraged, and where your professors actually want to get to know you.
It’s a mix of excitement, nerves, and curiosity, but in that moment, it starts to click. This isn’t just another first day of school… It’s the beginning of your college experience.
After class, it’s time for a well-earned (and honestly, necessary) lunch break at the dining hall. You follow the crowd, grab a plate, and take a second to decide what sounds good, because suddenly, you have options.
You find a table, maybe with people you just met or maybe someone you recognized from class, and conversation starts to flow. You talk about majors, where you’re from, how your first class went, and before you know it, you’re laughing, making plans to meet up later, and realizing you’re not doing this alone.
Somewhere between bites, someone mentions Freshman Worship Night at Paradigm, a student ministry just off campus. It comes up pretty casually, like something a lot of people are planning to check out that week. It turns into one of those easy “we should go” moments. Nothing is fully set in stone, but you exchange numbers, talk through rides, and start planning for the evening together.
Someone mentions it starts at 8 pm, which gives you plenty of time to head back to your room, catch up with your roommate about how the day went, and compare schedules or first impressions of classes and campus. Maybe you both unpack a bit, take a break, and then start getting ready to meet up again later that evening.
And honestly, that’s what most of your first day feels like. Not perfect, not all figured out, but better than you expected. The nerves you had the night before start to fade, the campus that once felt so big becomes more familiar, and you realize the people around you are in the exact same position, just trying to find their place, just like you.
Make This Place Your Home
If that sounds like the perfect first day, this place is perfect for you!
So how do you make this dream a reality? The first step is to register for Texan Orientation. At orientation, you’ll register for your first semester of classes, officially locking in the foundation of what your perfect first day will look like.
