Tarleton State University's Department of Nursing
Welcomes You!

Tarleton State University’s nursing program is an innovative, rurally based multiple-entry (generic, LVNs, and RNs) baccalaureate degree program. Originally established in 1976 as an ADN program, Tarleton has a thirty-three year history of academic excellence in preparing graduates to professionally and competently care for patients.  Clinical experiences based in rural and community hospitals and other area health care agencies have provided graduates with an outstanding base of knowledge for the present and future health care arena.

As of May 2008, the program has produced 740 ADN and 398 BSN graduates.  The Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing program is fully accredited by the Texas Board of Nursing and nationally accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The program was granted reaccredidation by CCNE in April 2004 for the maximum term of 10 years, extending to June 30, 2014.

A new 23.4 million dollar, 55,000 square foot nursing building is planned to open in the fall of 2010 on a site at Vanderbilt and Rome Streets near the Science Building.  The new facility will provide the quantity and quality of space necessary to expand the baccalaureate nursing program and offer a masters degree in nursing.
