Any student new to Tarleton, whether they are freshmen or transfer students, is automatically assigned to a peer mentor. Tarleton has 25-30 upperclassmen students who are employed on campus to serve others. Peer mentors offer guidance, support, and connections to resources throughout every student’s first year.
Each student receives an email with the subject line, “Schedule your peer mentoring appointment.” In this email is a link to schedule with their assigned mentor. The student just has to choose the day and time they would like to meet. Peer mentors always meet on campus in convenient locations. They offer casual, laid-back one-on-one meetings where the student has full control over the topic of conversation.
Peer mentors also host events throughout the year for students to get to know Tarleton peer mentors in a group setting while having some fun.
Students who met with their peer mentor in Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 showed a 10% higher rate of enrolling in the following semester versus those who did not meet with their mentor.
