There is nothing quite like the start of a new academic year at Tarleton State University. Our campuses are once again filled with energy and excitement as returning students reconnect with friends, new Texans begin their journeys, and our faculty and staff prepare for another year of transforming lives.
Kindall and I are thrilled to welcome you back. After a summer of preparation and progress, we begin this year with renewed purpose and incredible momentum. There has never been a more exciting time to be a Texan.
Everywhere you look, our momentum is visible.
Construction continues on the Stephenville campus as Regents Hall and Parking Garage 2 will add and expand spaces to support our growing university and enhance the student experience. Site preparation will soon be underway for our Innovation and Incubation Hub, which will create new opportunities for students, faculty, entrepreneurs and industry partners to turn ideas into real-world impact.
This spring, the Texas A&M System Board of Regents approved $100 million in Permanent University Fund support for a new Agricultural Sciences Building, marking the largest PUF-supported project in Tarleton State history. Agriculture is the academic DNA of our institution, and this best-in-class facility will honor the vision of our founder, John Tarleton, while preparing the next generation of agricultural leaders, researchers and innovators.
That same spirit of connection and opportunity will be on full display during WOW Week. For our newest Texans, this is your first opportunity to experience the traditions, relationships and sense of belonging that make Tarleton State unlike anywhere else. I encourage you to jump in, meet new people, get involved and experience everything this week has to offer. For our returning students, help us welcome the newest members of our family and show them what it means to Bleed Purple.
On Saturday, Aug. 29, Texan Football returns to Memorial Stadium as we host Prairie View A&M University for a season opener unlike any other, with the Texans and the Panthers competing for the inaugural Texas A&M System Chancellor’s Cup. With a Purple Out theme, our New Student Run, and a national television audience on ESPN2, we have an incredible opportunity to showcase Tarleton State’s tradition and energy to the nation. That entire weekend will be an experience you will never forget with a Friday night concert, Texan Alley tailgate and the first football game of the season. Wear your purple proudly, Texans!
As we begin this new year, I challenge each of you to take full advantage of the opportunities before you. Get involved. Build relationships. Challenge yourself. Attend an event. Cheer on your fellow Texans. Find ways to serve others. And never underestimate what can happen when you step outside your comfort zone and pursue something greater.
For more than 126 years, Tarleton State has been a place where futures are shaped and possibilities are realized. As we look around our campuses today, we are not simply witnessing growth, we are building what comes next.
