Core Curriculum Student Learning Outcomes

Critical Thinking/Problem Solving– the application of both qualitative and quantitative skills analytically and creatively to subject matter in order to evaluate arguments and to construct alternative strategies

  1. Students will evaluate evidence in analysis, interpretation or arguments
  2. Students will synthesize varied components of information to form a rational conclusion.

Communication–to include effective development, interpretation and expression of ideas through written, oral and visual communication

  1. Demonstrate effective audience centered communication skills
  2. Effectively articulate a reasoned position orally and in writing
  3. Demonstrate proficiency in the use of the tools of language
  4. Analyze, interpret a variety of material, integrate information, and data using a variety of communication tools including graphical representations and technology

Empirical and Quantitative Skills- to include the manipulation and analysis of numerical data or observable facts resulting in informed conclusions

  1. Students will gather, interpret or use numerical data/observable facts to arrive at an informed conclusion

Teamwork – to include the ability to consider different points of view and to work effectively with others to support a shared purpose or goal

  1. Students will work in coordination to complete specific tasks.

Personal Responsibility – to include the ability to connect choices, actions and consequences to ethical decision-making

  1. Students will demonstrate an understanding of ethical standards as applied to decision-making

Social Responsibility: to include intercultural competence, knowledge of civic responsibility, and the ability to engage effectively in regional, national, and global communities

  1. Students will express ideas in written, visual or oral forms to a range of diverse audiences in multiple settings
