Internship Opportunities
Internship Preparation & Search Strategies
Why Do I Need an Internship?
Internships are a required part of many of the COANR degree programs and one of the best ways to prepare yourself for your future career. They give you a chance to:
- Get hands-on experience
- See how classroom knowledge applies in the real-world
- Build career-ready skills that employers are looking for
- Network with industry professionals
- Strengthen your resume and stand out after graduation
How Do I Choose the Right Internship?
When choosing the right internship, it’s important to ensure that the experience is new and professional, such as interning with companies or individuals that you have not worked for in the past and that are not close relatives or friends. This ensures that the internship provides valuable, fresh exposure to your field and helps you build a broader network and skill set.
Your internship search may be narrowed by finding an internship that:
- Is specific to your degree program
- Related to your concentration area
- Matches your career interests
Who Finds the Internship?
You do! While finding and securing internships is the student’s responsibility, you are not on your own. The College of Agriculture and Natural Resources has dedicated, knowledgeable faculty within each department that can help you:
- Explore available opportunities
- Review resumes
- Work on applications
- Answer questions about internships and career goals
