Ph.D. in Animal and Natural Resource Sciences

A completed application for the Doctor of Philosophy in Animal & Natural Resource Sciences must include:

Admissions to the Animal & Natural Resource Sciences Ph.D. program requires an online application with official transcripts, a resume, a personal statement of goals, and three letters of recommendation (including one from the M.S. committee chair), along with a prior commitment from a Ph.D. advisor. Applicants must hold a master’s degree in animal science, natural resources, or a related field, demonstrate English proficiency, and have a minimum 3.0 GPA in all master’s coursework.

The program is a unique interdisciplinary Ph.D. in the southwestern U.S., integrating animal, natural resource, and social sciences to prepare graduates to address modern challenges in sustainable food and energy production, resource conservation, and environmental resilience.

Official Transcripts

Official transcripts are required for all undergraduate and master’s-level coursework, including conferral of a master’s degree in animal science, natural resources or a closely related field from an accredited institution. Your master’s should have a thesis or equivalent writing product (professional research paper, capstone paper, etc.). A minimum 3.0 GPA is required on all master’s work.

Personal Statement

A personal statement of academic and research interests (no less than 600 and no more than 1,000 words) detailing the applicant’s motivation for pursuing the doctoral degree as well as areas of research interest they wish to pursue. Applicants may also choose to include professional experience, research experience, and any personal experience that may be relevant to the admission decision.
