Your Guide To Res Life: Making This Place Your Home

Uprooting your entire life, essentially embarking on a new journey of young adulthood, can be frightening and no amount of advice from family and friends can ever truly prepare you for what’s to come.

From one Tarleton State Texan to another, we want you to know this place will soon feel like home.

Tips & Tricks

  • Show up to events (even if you’re nervous) – One way to connect to others either in your own hall or another, is by going to events. These events bring everyone together, and it’s a great way to branch out and meet other people!
  • Communicate early with roommates
  • Make your space feel like home
  • It is never too late to get involved – I was terrified as a freshman to get involved, but I did form many friendships. As a sophomore, I commuted from my hometown and barely saw my peers. That’s when I knew I wanted to be an RL because my RL as a freshman inspired and encouraged me. This role has helped me connect with so many people, and I am truly in love with this job.
  • Balancing academics and involvement – Being active on campus helps me stay motivated and connected. Being an RL, TTM, and a member of Ag Mech has given me so much purpose and has made me see so much potential in myself as I grow as a leader.
  • Give it time! Building a community takes patience!!

Although leaving behind the life you’ve always known can be a bit daunting, it should not prevent you from spreading your wings and taking the first step toward your new life as a young adult.
