My Transfer Journey: Alayna Liles

“If you are thinking about transferring, just do it. I’d been thinking about it since my freshman year and I didn’t do it because I was so scared. Transferring to Tarleton has honestly been one of the best decisions I’ve made!”

Alayna Liles , First Generation Transfer Student

Alayna Liles is not only a proud Tarleton State transfer student but she is also a first generation college student forging her own higher education path.

Originally from Georgetown, Texas, Liles found herself attending Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas following her high school graduation.

It wasn’t until Spring 2025 that Alayna decided to make Tarleton State University her new home away from home.

“I am a business major expected to graduate in the fall of 2026.”

“My greatest accomplishment has been putting myself out there and really getting out of my comfort zone. At my old school I was only involved in one thing. I wanted to get more involved with campus so I decided to join Greek life and now I am in Alpha Omicron Pi and I love it so much!”

“I plan on moving back to my hometown and working for some type of small business while I work on my accelerated nursing degree!”

“During my transfer journey, Tarleton State was one of my top two schools. Once I got into my

fifth semester at UMHB, I realized I needed a change and just a different environment to grow in.  Ever since I’ve gotten here I feel like I have done what I wanted to and I feel like I’ve grown a lot.”

I have met so many amazing people and Stephenville and Tarleton as a whole has just felt like home ever since I stepped foot in here. It’s okay to be scared to transfer. It’s a new experience and different environment but Tarleton just made it easy!
