Welcome to Tarleton Public Radio, KTRL 90.5 FM

KTRL Public Radio

Programming changes:
KTRL is partnering with KAMU-FM, Texas A&M's public radio station in College Station, to bring you the best in NPR news, classical and jazz programming.  This will allow KTRL to serve a large number of people in the Cross Timbers that do not have access to the quality programming from National Public Radio (NPR) that many people rely on for news and information.  According to the 2000 Census data, at least 68,000 people in KTRL's main coverage area are not served by other public radio stations and will rely on KTRL to bring them NPR news, classical and jazz.

Tarleton State has been trying for years to establish a public radio station and, in fact, staff from Texas A&M's KAMU-FM consulted with Tarleton administration ten years ago to assist in Tarleton's quest.  Since Tarleton is part of the Texas A&M system, this partnership is a natural extension of A&M's mission and shares System resources in providing public service to the widest possible audience.

Through this partnership, KTRL will air the award-winning NPRnewsmagazines Morning Edition from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and All Things Considered from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.  In addition, KTRL will begin airing NPR's Car Talk, Fresh Air, and Wait Wait Don't Tell Me.  For more details on our new programming lineup, click on the program schedule link to the left.

KTRL would like to build local programming with volunteer show hosts from the Tarleton and surrounding communities.  Please contact the station if you feel you would like to get involved.

About us:
KTRL 90.5 is a relatively new frequency in the Cross Timbers.  The previous owner of the frequency donated it to Tarleton State University in 2009 after running an Adult Contemporary music format for nearly a year.  Due to budgetary restraints, Tarleton has been unable to program a full public radio format on KTRL until now.  For the past eight months, KTRL has been running an eclectic, rootsy mix of folk, bluegrass, Americana and rock music, including the music programs Undercurrents and Folk Alley.

KTRL has a small staff that includes students from Tarleton State that you will hear occasionally on the air in addition to the voices from KAMU-FM.

KTRL 90.5 FM covers a 10-county area of the Cross Timbers from our transmitter located between Stephenville and Granbury, with our strongest signal available in Stephenville, Granbury, Glen Rose, Hico and Dublin, covering about 100,000 people in this area, with over 200,000 people in our full coverage area indicated by the middle circle on the map below.  KTRL has listeners from Comanche to Cleburne and from Hamilton to Weatherford.  We also have listeners in Fort Worth and Arlington.

Tell us what you think.  If you have any comments on what you hear or suggestions for what KTRL should air, be sure to click on the comment link to the left.  Please be sure to tell us where you listen to the station.
