Do I have to be in an English class to get help with my writing?
No. The Writing Center is happy to help with writing projects from any class, major, or degree plan.
Do I need to make an appointment?
Yes. Appointments are required for all face-to-face and Zoom tutorial Sessions. You can make an appointment through Tarleton EAB Navigate https://www.tarleton.edu/eabnavigate/. Feel free to check out the YouTube video on the Writing Center’s homepage for an introduction to EAB Navigate and a step-by-step guide to making an appointment.
Do I need to bring anything?
Yes. Please bring your assignment sheet, articles or other materials provided by your instructor, and any sources and drafts you may already have. Bringing these materials ensures that tutors understand your assignment and helps them know how to most effectively focus their feedback.
How long will my tutorial be?
Appointments are scheduled in 30 minute windows. Students may schedule up to 2 appointments each day.
For online submissions, please be aware that tutors will only be able to review up to 10 pages in one day. If you are working on a longer project and you submit more than 10 pages, tutors will review and comment on the first 10 pages and recommend that you apply any applicable suggestions to the remainder of the document. You may feel free to submit a portion of the draft beyond the first 10 pages after receiving feedback on the first 10-page submission.
Can I drop my paper off?
No. The mission of the Writing Center is to help individual students progress as writers. This is best accomplished when the student and tutor go through the paper together. As students continue to visit the Writing Center, they will better recognize their strengths and weaknesses as writers and learn to highlight those strengths while improving on weaknesses. Dropping a paper off robs the writer of this valuable experience. If you don’t have time to sit down with a tutor, you can email your paper to [email protected], but please keep in mind that there is a 48-hour turn around policy* on all online submissions.
*In high volume periods, Writing Center personnel will extend the turnaround period to 72 hours, excluding nights and weekends. Please keep this in mind if you submit a paper through email in a high-traffic period such as mid-terms, final exams, and other times in the semester.
