Campus crime alerts and timely warnings to the community comply with the federal Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act (Clery Act).
On Monday, Sept. 14, 2026 the Tarleton State University Police Department received multiple reports of stolen scooters.
Under the federal Clery Act and National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) standards, university police classify electric scooters and electric bicycles as motor vehicles.

Safety Information
While universities are required under the Clery Act to notify the public of such reports, it is also our responsibility to provide information regarding personal protective measures.
Anti-Theft Suggestions:
– Consider using a high-security U-lock.
– Use a lock that properly fits the scooter or bike.
– Consider attaching an internal GPS tracker.
– Remove the battery pack whenever possible.
– Take the scooter with you whenever possible.
– Keep locks off the ground, where thieves can gain leverage to pry them open and break them.
– Park in well-lit, conspicuous areas and in view of cameras.
– Register all electric scooters or bicycles with Tarleton UPD Rapids program.
