Welcome Back, Texans!

Tarleton State University seal with "Office of the President".

Dear Tarleton State family,

As we begin the new year, Kindall and I are delighted to welcome you back to a spring semester filled with opportunity and progress.

Fall 2025 was a season for the record books. We celebrated a football victory over FBS Army, hosted our first concerts and major events in the EECU Center, and welcomed our newest graduates as alumni during the facility’s first commencement ceremonies. The Health Professions Building hosted its first cohort of Texans and we began the development of the Division of Health Sciences, strengthening our ability to meet critical healthcare needs across Texas through interprofessional education.

For the sixth consecutive year, data from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board confirmed that Tarleton State leads Texas in the percentage of graduates who secured employment or enrolled in graduate school within one year of graduation. Building on that success, the university announced the expansion of the President’s Guaranteed Scholarship program to include master’s students beginning this semester.

On the field and court, Tarleton State student-athletes embodied the Texan spirit throughout the semester. The football program capped a historic 2025 season with a 12-2 record, advancing to the FCS NCAA quarterfinals, while our volleyball team also enjoyed their best season. This fall certainly marked significant milestones in the university’s NCAA Division I journey,

This spring, we will once again come together to celebrate the history and spirit of Tarleton State during John T. Celebration Week, scheduled for April 10–17. The week will be marked by time-honored events such as Silver Taps and May Fete, alongside campus favorites including Oscar P’s Birthday Bash and Spring Concert, the crowning of Lord and Lady Tarleton, and the Purple and White spring football game.

Our campus continues to grow with purpose. From the relocation of Texan Outfitters to the Washington Street parking garage to the construction of the 1,000-bed Regents Hall and board approval of a second multi-level parking garage, these investments reflect our commitment to enhancing campus life and supporting student success. This growth strengthens Tarleton State’s ability to expand opportunity, advance learning, and address critical needs in healthcare, education, and research and teacher education as we move confidently toward our strategic vision of becoming a premier comprehensive national university.

Reaching the midpoint of our Tarleton State Forward 2030 strategic plan gives us much to celebrate, including our continued momentum as the fastest-growing public institution in Texas. With the unwavering support of the Texas A&M System Board of Regents and Chancellor Glenn Hegar, there has truly never been a better time to be a Tarleton State Texan.

Welcome back, Godspeed, and may you forever Bleed Purple!

Dr. James Hurley

President
