Piano Studies

The piano program is housed in the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center. The Fine Arts Center features a 16 keyboard piano and computer lab, as well as a dynamic instrument collection including:

  • Two nine-foot concert Steinway grand pianos
  • The Waggener Memorial Organ
  • A tracker two-manual pipe organ
  • A Richard Kingston harpsichord
  • Several Steinway grand pianos, which are designated for piano majors

Opportunities

Experience regular master classes and performances by internationally acclaimed pianists, such as Yakov Kasman, silver medalist in the Tenth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. Traditionally, Tarleton has maintained a relationship with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra. Performance and professional opportunities are available on campus with Music Teachers National Association and Music Educators National Conference. 

Program Admission

Tarleton emphasizes interpretation, musicianship, a thorough grounding in established solo and chamber music repertoire, music theory, music history, and piano pedagogy. Applied organ instruction is available for interested students. 

Admission to the piano program is based on:

  1. An audition consisting of a performance of two pieces from contrasting periods (Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Impressionist, or Twentieth-Century) and
  2. Academic records.
