Appointments

Tarleton State Student Health Services is available to currently enrolled students who have paid the Student Health Fee. This includes Stephenville campus, Fort Worth, and Waco Learning Centers, as well as remote students in Texas.

Please be aware that we are licensed in Texas only and, as such, specific medical advice will be limited to cover those areas our licensure allows.

All students are able to use both the Fort Worth and Stephenville locations as needed.

If you make an appointment and cannot keep it, please call or you will be charged a $20 no show fee and will automatically be billed to your Tarleton State account. Any other fees incurred will be billed to the student’s Tarleton State account.

We do not accept insurance.

Meningitis vaccines are available at the Student Health Services’ office. For more information on meningitis, check out this health advisory. Additional information on submitting meningitis vaccines can be found on the Admissions website.

Tarleton State students are able to access our after hours nurse advice line (833) 359-0172. This applies to hours we are closed and on weekends.

Mission Statement

The Mission of Student Health Services is to maintain or restore the health of the students of Tarleton State University to maximum capability to enable them to achieve their academic goals. It is the intent of Student Health Services to deliver quality medical care in a cost-effective manner in treating acute illnesses or injuries, evaluating and treating acute exacerbation of chronic illnesses, and referral to appropriate medical care for those medical problems that lie beyond the scope of treatment in the Student Health Services’ office. It is also part of the mission to provide education that will have long-term benefits to enable the students to be productive members of society.

FAQs

Do I have to call ahead? Are walk-in appointments available?

Student Health Services is just like a doctor’s office back home. To serve all students efficiently, please schedule an appointment rather than walk in. This helps us maximize the time students spend with the provider while minimizing wait time. Students who call early in the morning will typically be seen the same day if there is an opening. Patients who walk in without an appointment will be scheduled at the next available time.

Why am I asked to arrive 10 minutes before my appointment time?

Students are asked to arrive early to complete any required paperwork and insurance information.

What health information should I bring to Student Health Services?

  • Insurance Cards, if applicable.
  • Parents’ birth dates, including the year (for insurance purposes).
  • Past medical history or surgeries.
  • A list of current medications.
  • A list of drug, food, or environmental allergies.
  • Family medical history (i.e., cancer, diabetes, hypertension, heart disease).

What if I have a chronic medical condition?

  • Make an appointment early in the semester.
  • Send relevant medical records to the Student Health Center.
  • Establish a relationship with one of our primary care providers (maintain continuity of care).
  • Send relevant medical records to the Student Health Center, addressed to Attention: Medical Director.

Who will I see for my appointment?

Depending on the nature of the student’s appointment, they will be scheduled to see:

  • Board Certified Physician
  • Certified Nurse Practitioner
  • Certified Physician Assistant

What is the class excuse policy?

Student Health Services will provide a letter of visit validation for the time the student was in the clinic.

Are well-woman exams done at Student Health Services?

Yes, regular well-woman exams are scheduled throughout the week and take approximately 40 minutes. Costs vary based on age and services rendered during this visit.

Can I receive my allergy shots at Student Health Services?

Yes, as long as Student Health Services has received orders from the provider that prescribes the medication, as well as consent. Students may bring their medication in with them or have it shipped to Student Health Services at the following address: Box T-0360 Stephenville, TX 76402

Are X-rays available at Student Health Services?

Yes, the Student Health Center has an on-site X-ray department.

Is HIV/STD testing available?

Yes, an appointment must be made with a provider or nurse clinic who will then order the appropriate testing.

How long does it take to get lab work results back?

Most lab work will be back within 24 hours. Cultures generally take 48-72 hours. Any lab work that must be sent out can take 7-10 days.

Do I pay at the time of my appointment?

No, Student Health Services does not accept cash or cards at the office. Should we need to collect a copay, we will send it to the student’s Texan Bill Pay account. This includes any other service charges that are rendered. It will show on the account as Medical Supplies.

What is the Student Health and Wellness Fee?

The Student Health and Wellness Fee supports essential on-campus care by funding both medical and mental health services for students. This fee is evenly divided, with 50% allocated to Student Health Services and 50% to Student Counseling, ensuring balanced support for physical and emotional well-being. Paid each semester by enrolled students through Texan Bill Pay, the fee helps maintain accessible, high-quality resources that promote a healthier, more supported campus community.
