General Education Committee Resources
Members of the General Education Committee are trained on topics related to core course requirements and assessment, SACSCOC and THECB standards, assessment best-practices, etc. at the start of each academic year. A refresher training is provided at the start of the spring semester. Training is led by the Assistant Provost for Curriculum and Assessment and the Director of Assessment.
The purpose of the training is twofold:
- assessment – enable the committee to provide constructive feedback designed to help faculty implement well-designed academic assessment processes that can be used to craft effective actions leading to student learning improvement.
- curriculum – enable the committee to review core course proposal and modifications to ensure appropriateness to the general education mission as well as compliance with THECB requirements.
The GEC training materials and rubrics (implemented with Qualtrics) are included below.

Prior to Fall 2024, the General Education Committee and the University Academic Assessment Committee existed as a single, large committee (GEAAC). The minutes can be found on the UAAC Resources page.
