Dr. Sherri Benn
Vice President for Global, Community and First- Gen Initiatives
Dr. Sherri Benn joined Tarleton in October 2021. She serves as Tarleton State University’s Vice President for The Lozano-Long Division of Global, Community and First-Gen Initiatives, which supports students from 38 countries, 48 states, and 234 Texas counties. Dr. Benn leads and supports the university’s strategic charge to advance community values across all aspects of Tarleton’s multi-campus institution through mission-focused partnerships that promote work, service, and leadership readiness for success in a globally connected economy and transnational workforce. Dr. Benn’s team supports: International Student Services and Programs (homeland security and US State Department requirements), Study Abroad, community partnerships, academic accommodation for students with disabilities, TRIO Programs, First-Generation Student Initiatives, Military Friendly Initiatives, Ministerial Alliance collaborations.
Dr. Benn received recognition by the Texas State Foundations of Excellence for Leadership, Impact and Mentoring, the Dunbar Heritage Association for Community Leadership, and has served in leadership roles in both state and national organizations. Dr. Benn earned her Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from the University of Texas at Austin and has completed leadership programs at UC Berkeley and EAB. She also serves on the Executive Committee of APLU’s Commission on International Initiatives.
