Fort Worth Quick Facts

History
In 1978, Tarleton State University established its Fort Worth presence with Dr. Lamar Johanson’s medical laboratory science program. The program expanded, relocating to the Richard C. Schaffer Building in the 1990s.
The 2006 move to the Hickman Building marked a turning point. Student numbers grew significantly, reaching over 1,700 by 2015.
Walton Global donated 80 acres in 2014, paving the way for a permanent campus, with the master plan approved in 2017. The vision culminated in 2019 with the opening of the Campus Administration Building.
The Interprofessional Education Building opened in Fall 2024, alongside the first cohort of first- and second-year students.
2026 — Updated Master Plan Released; Classes at Texas A&M-Fort Worth launch starting with programs such as Medical Lab Sciences, Histotechnology, and Biotechnology.
2028 — Tarleton State celebrates 50 Years in Fort Worth; New Tarleton State Pkwy exit expected to open off Chisholm Trail Pkwy.
