OVERVIEW

A mortgage loan officer, also known as a mortgage loan originator (MLO), is a licensed financial professional who helps individuals and businesses secure home loans to purchase or refinance real estate. MLOs guide clients through the mortgage application, approval, and closing processes, and often work for banks, credit unions, or mortgage lending companies.

To become a licensed MLO in Texas, you must complete required pre-licensing education, pass the SAFE MLO Test, and meet additional registration requirements through the Nationwide Multistate Licensing System (NMLS).
