Certificate Details

The Online Teaching and Learning Certificate is a professional development program designed to prepare K-12 educators to effectively design, facilitate, and evaluate online learning experiences. The certificate consists of two sequential courses, held virtually, that focus on the essential competencies required for successful virtual instruction.

Participants will first explore instructional design principles and best practices for developing online learning environments. Topics include course planning, course mapping, learning management systems, online course organization, interactive learning activities, assessment design, accessibility considerations, and continuous course improvement. Participants will develop online learning materials and apply evidence-based strategies to create engaging and learner-centered virtual courses.

The second course focuses on facilitating effective online instruction. Participants will examine online teaching pedagogy, communication strategies, student engagement techniques, community building, collaboration, feedback practices, and methods for supporting learners in virtual settings. Emphasis is placed on creating meaningful learning experiences that foster interaction, motivation, and student success.

Throughout the certificate, participants will engage in applied learning activities that allow them to immediately implement concepts within their own educational settings. Upon successful completion of both courses, participants will earn the Online Teaching and Learning Certificate and demonstrate proficiency in designing and facilitating high-quality online and blended learning experiences.
