Our Mission
The mission of the Tarleton State University Writing Center is to support our students, staff and faculty from all disciplines in all facets of the writing process, to support the growth of individual writers and nurture strong academic and creative writing communities. We do this through mentoring and training undergraduate and graduate writing consultants who provide individual consultations face-to-face, online and virtually (Zoom). Writing consultants can also visit your class. Additionally, we provide a variety of resources and workshops to strengthen writing and support writers across campus.

Our Vision
Our vision is that we engage in a collaborative spirt and provide a welcoming space that nurtures and empowers Tarleton students’, staff and faculty writing pursuits.
Our Values
We believe in creating an atmosphere of mutual respect without judgment where we help writers identify their strengths and weaknesses to best improve their writing.
We recognize that writing is a process and no one consultation can address all everything. We work to prioritize issues to focus the time we have to work together.
We recognize that the writer is the decision maker. Our goal is to help the writer by providing options and recommendations that can make the writing stronger. The decision to act on the suggestions stays with the writer.
We recognize that we are also student writers who are continuing to learn through the peer tutoring process. We continually work to improve our own skill and ability as writing tutors in the University Writing Center.
