Professional Biography

Dr. T. Wayne Schwertner is Professor of Wildlife Science at Tarleton State University, focusing on biodiversity conservation in rangeland systems. He also directs the Southern African Conservation Research Initiative, leading field programs in Botswana’s Kalahari that integrate research, education, and student mentoring. With over 30 years of experience in North America and Africa, he has authored of 34+ publications and is the recipient of Tarleton’s top research award. His international service includes roles as Research Advisor to Cheetah Conservation Botswana and membership on the IUCN Dove and Pigeon Specialist Group.
