Student Social Work Association
The purpose of the Student Social Work Association is to work toward the greater good of the Tarleton campus community and the local community. SSWA is an active organization that conducts fundraising for nonprofit agencies and charities, as well as encourages volunteering for community groups. As funding permits, members attend the Annual Social Work Conference.
Some of the annual activities conducted by SSWA include:
- World AIDS Day
- Susan G. Komen For The Cure Fundraiser
- Angel Tree (for local nursing homes)
- Child Welfare Conference
Zeta Chapter, Phi Alpha Honor Society
The purposes of the Phi Alpha Honor Society are to provide a closer bond among Social Work students and promote humanitarian goals and ideals. Phi Alpha fosters high education standards and invites into membership those who have attained excellence in both scholarship and achievement in Social Work.
Membership Requirements
Undergraduate students shall be enrolled in the institution represented by the chapter, have declared a major in social work, have completed 9 semester hours of required social work courses or at least 37.5% of the total hours/credits
required for the degree, whichever is later achieved, and rank in the top 35% of their class.
Graduate students shall be enrolled in a graduate program in social work, have completed 9 semester hours of required social work graduate courses or at least 37.5% of the total hours/credits required for the graduate degree, whichever
is later achieved, and rank in the top 35% of their class.
Once students have met these requirements, they will be inducted.

Donate to the Herbert Jarrett Scholarship
Every Fall and Spring semester a deserving social work student is awarded $500 from the Herbert Jarrett Scholarship fund. Before long the funds will run out and we will no longer be able to help some deserving students.
