The Freshman Survey

The American Freshman: National Norms Fall 2015. A CIRP Monograph

The Freshman Survey is a comprehensive survey designed by the Higher Education Research Institute. It was administered to all incoming freshmen at the beginning of the Fall semesters of 2007, 2009 and 2013. The survey collects information that provides a ‘snapshot’ of our incoming students’ before they experience college, and covers such areas as academic habits and preparedness, demographics, values and goals, and expectations for college. The results also compare our students’ responses to other students at similar institutions.

Your First College Year Survey

Your First College Year is designed as a follow-up survey to the CIRP Freshman Survey and provides comprehensive information on the academic and personal development of first-year college students. Specifically the YFCY is used to evaluate student adjustment to college, assess students’ academic experiences and achievement , collect information about extracurricular experiences, and examine student change over the course of the first year in college. It was administered face-to-face Spring 2010 and Spring 2014.
