Professional Biography

Dr. Jessica Leatherwood serves as a Professor and Graduate Program Coordinator at Tarleton State University. She received her BS, MS, and PhD in Animal Science from Texas A&M University. Her research focuses on improving joint health in young performance horses, supported by extramural funding nearing $2.5 million. This funding has been instrumental in mentoring numerous undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral students who have matriculated into academic and industry positions. Dr. Leatherwood has co-authored 34 peer-reviewed journal articles and more than 100 conference papers and abstracts, highlighting her scholarly contributions. She resides in Dublin, TX, with her husband, Cole, and their two children, Charlie and Kelly, and enjoys riding their American Quarter horses as a family.
