Professional Biography
Dr. Kimberly Wellmann grew up with a passion for large animals and completed her undergraduate degree in Animal Science with a minor in Business Administration at Texas A&M University. She followed that up with a Master’s of Science in Agriculture at Sam Houston State University, before completing her PhD at Texas Tech University. Her doctoral research focused on nutritional factors affecting muscle development in feedlot steers. She then went on to work for American Calf Products as a sales manager and calf consultant. During COVID, she worked for a beef cattle producer in Anton, TX, before returning to academia. She is now an assistant professor in Animal Science at Tarleton State University, where she serves as the beef cattle specialist. She currently conducts research evaluating feed additives and micronutrients and how they impact growth performance, reproduction, and muscle development in beef cattle. Dr. Wellmann serves on the Honors Advisory Council, the TSU General Scholarship Committee, and the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources Suspension Committee. She also serves as the Animal Science Faculty Senator and is a faculty advisor for the Tarleton Pre-Veterinary Medical Association. She sits on, co-chairs, or chairs countless undergraduate honors, master’s thesis, and doctoral dissertation committees.
