Women’s Mentoring Program @ Tarleton

Who are we?

The Tarleton Women’s Mentoring Program (Tarleton WMN) is an informal group focused on providing a sense of community, mentoring connections, networking opportunities, and social and professional development for Tarleton’s faculty and staff. Any individual who advocates and supports women employed at Tarleton is welcome to participate in the Tarleton Women’s Mentoring Network without regard to gender, gender identity, and/or gender expression. Tarleton WMN hosts a Women-in-Leadership Speaker’s Series, provides short-term mentoring opportunities, and helps to connect members to external resources such as the Texas Women in Higher Education network. Participate as much or as little as your time allows – we’d love to see you!

Our Story

Tarleton WMN began from a faculty writing accountability group designed to provide a forum and motivation to help women achieve their research goals. Over time, that group’s conversations shifted to more general support, encouragement, and mentoring. From those humble roots, the Tarleton WMN was born in connection with the Texas Women in Higher Education (TWHE) and Texas A&M System goals to provide support to women in the academy. Rebranded in this more formal capacity, Tarleton WMN was formally created in August 2019 and continues to provide various forms of support for Tarleton faculty and staff.

Tarleton’s TWHE institutional representatives are Lora Helvie-Mason, who can be contacted by email at [email protected] or phone at 254-459-5496 and Sarah Maben who can be contacted by email at [email protected] or phone at 817-484-4396.

2020-2022 Executive Team Members: Dr. Nathalie Jones, Social Work; Dr. Sarah Maben, Communication Studies; Dr. Sharon Ross, Education; Dr. Misty Smith, Social Work; Dr. Elizabeth Wallace, Student Engagement & Success; Chair: Dr. Lora-Helvie-Mason, Student Engagement & Success and Communication Studies.
