Upward Bound is one of several TRIO programs funded by the U.S. Department of Education that are designed to provide a wide range of academic and cultural enrichment for our participants. All Upward Bound projects must provide instruction in math, laboratory science, composition, literature, and foreign language.

In our 33 years on the Tarleton campus, we have provide a wide-range of free service that have helped hundreds of area high school students gain the necessary skills and motivation to pursue a post-secondary education.

Upward Bound provide fundamental support to participants in their preparation for college entrance. The program provide opportunities for participants to succeed in pre-college performance and ultimately in higher education pursuits. The goal of Upward Bound is to increase the rates at which participants enroll in and graduate from institutions of postsecondary education.

Program Components

Program service are provide through two components, an academic year and a summer residential. Students must participate in both to maintain eligibility for program service. During the academic year, meetings are held on the Tarleton campus two Saturdays a month from September through May. The cornerstone of the Upward Bound experience is the five-week summer residential program which provide invaluable opportunities for students to experience learning in a college environment. Throughout the summer, participants will engage in secondary and postsecondary classroom learning and participate in cultural and educational.

Post Graduation Bridge

The Summer Bridge program is also offered to those who have graduated from high school and are accepted for a higher educational placement in the fall. Upward Bound will pay for a course for college credit that may be transferred to the college of their choice.
