ABOUT TRI-BETA

Tribeta (ßßß Biological Honor Society) is a national organization whose purpose is to honor biology students that have achieved high scholastic standards, to stimulate interest, scholarly attainment and investigation in the biological sciences, and to promote the dissemination of information and new interpretations among students of the life sciences.

The Tarleton Chapter of Tribeta meets bi-weekly at noon. Lunch is provided to those that pay $10 (per semester) local dues.

We encourage prospective members to join us at the noon meetings and/or scheduled events. Participation in events is a requirement for membership (attending noon meetings is not required).

MEMBERSHIP

Tribeta is open to all students with a sincere interest in biology. Prospective members must attend at least two Tribeta events (other than noon meetings) to be eligible for membership. Prospective members are inducted during our induction ceremony (held at the end of the Fall and Spring semesters).

There are three membership levels:

  • Regular membership is open to majors in biological science who are sophomores, juniors, or seniors, have completed at least 12 hours of biology coursework in biological science with an average grade of B or higher, have a minimum overall GPA of at least 3.0, and a GPA of at least 3.0 in biology. Only “biology” or “biomedical science” majors are eligible for regular membership. The membership fee is a $50 one-time fee (national membership) + $10.00 per semester (local dues). Regular members are members for life.
  • Associate membership is open to students who have a strong interest in the biological sciences, but do not meet all of the criteria for regular membership. The membership fee is a $40 one-time fee (national membership) + $10.00 per semester (local dues). Associate members become eligible for full membership once they meet the requirements listed above. Associate members cease to be members upon graduation.
  • Graduate membership is open to graduate students meeting the criteria for full members; membership fee is same as for full membership. Graduate members may participate in the local activities of any chapter except for the holding of constitutionally specified chapter offices and voting on chapter membership and national matters. They may attend district or national conventions.

Regular and graduate members shall remain members for life. Associate members cease to be members upon graduation.

Prospective members should see Dr. Pfau in Sci 213H (or during one of the Tribeta meetings). If you meet the qualifications above, complete the application and submit, along with payment, to Dr. Pfau (or the biology administrative assistant in Sci 203).
