What can Tarleton's theatre program offer me?
Our program offers hands-on training in all aspects of theatre production, from acting to stage managing to scenic design and construction.  Our students have the opportunity to participate in all productions from the beginning of their freshman year.
Do I have to audition to get into the theatre program at Tarleton?
No, admission to the program does not require an audition.  You only have to audition if you are seeking a scholarship.
What can I do with a degree in theatre?
Many of our theatre majors become teachers in Texas and around the U.S.  Still others go into professional theater in both acting and production.
Do I have to do an internship?
Yes, an internship is required following your junior year, so that you gain further preparation for a career in theater.
How do I prepare for an audition?
You need to prepare two ninety second monologues in contrasting styles to present to the scholarship committee.
Are there theatre scholarships available?
Yes, the theatre department has a number of scholarships available.  Call the Department of Fine Arts office at 254-968-9245 for more information on available department scholarships.
Can I declare a theatre minor?
Can non-theatre majors participate in productions?
Yes, auditions are open to any student enrolled at Tarleton. 
How many productions does Tarleton do every year?
We do four mainstage plays and two children's shows.
What are my chances of being cast in a play as a freshmen?
Very high.  Because of the size and make-up of the department, everyone has an excellent chance of being cast in a show, even their first year.
What is the rehearsal schedule like?
Mainstage productions typically rehearse from 7:00-10:00 pm Sunday through Thursday.  Children's shows typically rehearse from 5:00-7:00 pm Sunday through Thursday.
Are there areas other than acting where I can participate?
Yes.  We encourage all of our students to explore every aspect of the theatre.  We have a full size scene shop and costume shop, and we offer classes in lighting, sound and design.
What is your average class size?
Most theatre classes average about 15 students.
