How do I request services?

Service or Repairs

All requests for service or repairs should be made to the Tarleton Technology Help Desk Central at 9885 (for voice or cabling requests select option #5 and for data requests select option #7) or directly via the online system at http://helpdesk.tarleton.edu

The following information is required for Services:

  • Name and contact info of person submitting the request
  • Type of service requested
  • Name of the person using the service
  • Phone number
  • Account number
  • Location of the work requested (i.e.  move phone #9999 from Admin Annex #100 to Tarleton Center #201)

The following information is required for Repairs:

  • Name and contact info of person submitting the request
  • Telephone number experiencing the problem
  • What the problem is (i.e. line dead, static, voice mail, etc.). Please be specific.
  • When the problem started
  • Name of employee the telephone number is assigned to
  • Location of the telephone.

How do I use these services?

Long Distance for Business calls – There are two ways to make long distance business calls.

1. Authorization Codes:  From campus phones you’ll need a Tarleton issued Long Distance Authorization Codes

  • How do I obtain an Authorization Code?  Submit your request to Help Desk Central. 
  • How do I dial long distance calls from the office?  Tarleton uses authorization codes to track long distance expenses by departmental accounts.  Requesting an authorization code requires a written submittal.  Please use the online Help Desk system at http://helpdesk.tarleton.edu
  • I've got an authorization code, but how do I use it?  Dial your 7-digit authorization code + 8 + 1 + 10 digit number
  • How much does it cost my department?  The current rate is .10 cents per minute anywhere in the United States.

2. Calling Cards:  From off campus phones you’ll need a Tarleton issued Calling Card

  • How do I obtain a calling card?  Submit a request to Help Desk Central
  • How do I use my calling card?

To make Calls:

1.    Dial 1+ the toll free # from the front of the card

2.    At the voice prompt dial the area code and number you are calling

3.    At the voice prompt enter your 10-digit card number and 4-digit PIN number from the front of the card

To send a fax:

1.    Place documents into fax machine

2.    Dial 1+ the toll free # from the front of the card

3.    At the voice prompt dial the area code and number you are calling

4.    At the voice prompt enter your 10-digit card number and 4-digit PIN number from the front of the card

5.    Press the start/send button

800 Numbers

  • How do I obtain an 800 Number?  Submit a request to Help Desk Central
  • How much does it cost?  $3 monthly and .10 cents per minute

Directory Services

The campus online directory is available on every Tarleton web page at the top right corner of the page in the heading.

Other Directory Services

Conference Bridges – This is a special phone number that links multiple callers

  • There is no cost to set up an account
  • There is no cost unless you use it
  • Per minute costs (per participant) is .10 cents
  • Turn around is typically 2 business days from time we receive the order


 If you want us to set up an account for you,

  • Please reply with your authorization to do so
  • Please provide us with the departmental account number you want all charges billed to

Conference Phones: 

Polycom Conference Phones (Polycom is the brand we use and how we refer to them)

These are the nice speaker phones we have in some of the campus conference rooms (see list below for location and contact information).  Below are links to the two we most commonly purchase. 


The one-time purchase cost of a Polycom conference phone is:

  • Wired – plugged into a permanent jack, just like your desk phone, $432 + shipping/handling
  • Wireless – the base will stay plugged into the desk jack but you can move the phone around the room as you need, $515 + shipping/handling


In addition, there may be a standard telecom cost to install the phone, depending on if you are replacing an existing phone or if this will be a new phone.
