Graphic Designer

The graphic designer will be responsible for creating marketing materials for the Division of Student Affairs. The person in this position will work cross-departmentally to aid with marketing campaigns that may include design of banners, brochures, flyers, posters, logos, advertisements, social media graphics, and various other publications or graphics. Basic expectations of the graphic designer are as follows:

  • Develop and execute design projects that specifically meet the needs of the clients consisting of Student Affairs departments and organizations.
  • Assist in developing marketing campaign ideas to promote Student Affairs programs and services.
  • Assist with normal tasks associated with The Source that include, but not limited to, fulfilling orders pertaining to simple designs and professional printing.
  • Maintain shifts as needed at The Source’s front desk area.
  • Design advertisements for JTAC News as needed that meet the specifications of the advertiser.
  • Assist JTAC News as needed with design of templates, pages, graphics, photo art, etc.
  • Assist with the development of graphics and/or images for use in Student Affairs videos.
  • Take photos or assist in coordinating photo shoots for use in Student Affairs publications.
  • Organize all current projects, check progress, receive and/or provide feedback, and maintain real-time updates within the department’s online project management system.
  • Meet all deadlines as prescribed by the project manager.
  • Work with the university’s Marketing and Communication Office to ensure that all university graphic and branding standards are met and adhered to;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Technical Requirements:

The desired candidate should possess strong project management skills, be self-motivated, require little to no supervision, be able to work in a collaborative environment and be able to maintain client relationships. The candidate should also be advanced in design software such as Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, etc.).

General Requirements:
  • 1-2 years of experience in related position or academic coursework preferred
  • Good organizational and time management skills
  • Exhibit good office etiquette
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Exhibit good interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrate good customer service skills, both internal and external
  • Observe the confidentiality of data
Optional opportunity:

This position can be designed to serve as an Intern2Learn (based on financial need), Applied Learning Experience (ALE), or academic internship opportunity. To qualify, the following additional qualifications must be met:

  • Serve as project manager for at least two small- to medium-sized marketing projects.
  • Maintain a journal during work experience considering student learning outcomes
  • Post a reflection annually addressing the R.E.A.L. student learning outcomes on Portfolium
  • Post at least one artifact annually that reflects your out-of-classroom experience to Portfolium
  • Post a resume annually on Portfolium

Advertising Representative

The advertising representative shall have a general charge and responsibility of insuring that JTAC News is financially self-sufficient in regards to print costs, web hosting services, email services and any other contracted services that aid in the production and distribution of JTAC News. The advertising representative is responsible for creating and maintaining advertising campaigns for the print and online versions of JTAC News as well as any additional special revenue generating projects. The person in this position will aid the department in generating a minimum of $12,000 in advertising revenue. General expectation of this position are as follows: 

  • Meet established deadlines;
  • Maintain daily office hours;
  • Meet a monthly sales quota;
  • Provide full, efficient and courteous customer service to all customers;
  • Maintain contacts on bi-weekly basis with all regular customers;
  • Initiate contacts on a regular basis with all prospective customers;
  • Follow and ensure customers adhere to advertising policies of JTAC News;
  • Review and update advertising policies/requirements as needed in conjunction with the director of Student Publications;
  • Review and determine ad rates on a semesterly basis in consultation with the business manager and director of Student Publications;
  • Develop and implement programs/specials to increase advertising sales;
  • Accurately completes contracts on all advertising sales, submitting them to the business manager on a daily basis;
  • Help to collect all advertising revenue owed to JTAC News and turns it over to the business manager for deposit;
  • Schedule, coordinate and provide customer service with all national advertising agencies and accounts for both print and online;
  • Prepare a written report, called a “run sheet” one week in advance of each print edition, listing all ads sold and the size of each ad;
  • Submit daily “call logs” to the administrative assistant or director of Student Publications that record all daily contacts with customers and potential clients;
  • Responsible for advertising development, layout and design. Must ensure that it meets the advertiser’s specifications and is approved by the customer prior to print;
  • Seek out and maintain local advertisers for JTAC News’ Signal Campus kiosks in compliant with the regulations and policies of Signal Campus;
  • Serve as Customer Service Representative for the office by greeting people who enter the office, answering the phone, etc.;
  • Responsible for selling advertising for the Grassburr as needed or requested;
  • At minimum, meets monthly with the business manager and the director of Student Publications to review sales quotas, new leads, call logs, and any issues or concerns;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

The person in this position should be well organized and have at least a basic concept of marketing and sales. The candidate should also be proficient in design software such as Adobe CS6 (Photoshop, InDesign, etc.).
