The Volunteer Candle Bearers

Volunteers to serve as candle bearers are very important to the success of this meaningful event. We invite families to participate as a candle bearer on behalf of their honored loved one and we encourage students, faculty, and staff to participate to show support for their Tarleton family.

Volunteers will receive a lighted candle and a name of an honoree. As each name is called from the Honor Roll candle bearers process to the John Tarleton statue and stand together until all names are called.

After “Taps” is played and a 21-gun salute, candle bearers will extinguish the flame they carry upon the ceremony reading,

“You are the sons and daughters of Tarleton.

Your flame has burned long and well with those of this great brotherhood and sisterhood.

Tonight we remember and lay your flame to rest.”

If you are interested in serving as a candle bearer, please complete the form below. For questions, you may contact the Office of Alumni Engagement at 254-968-9682 or [email protected].

Volunteers wishing to carry a candle for a specific name are invited to reach out to the Alumni Engagement Office by Friday, April 12 so that can be arranged prior to the ceremony.

Silver Taps is scheduled for Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at 7:00pm. Volunteers should check-in between 6:00-6:30pm. Light refreshments will be provided.

We ask volunteers to keep in mind that Silver Taps is a memorial service where business attire is appropriate and comfortable shoes are recommended.
