2nd Annual TexanCon

Tarleton State University

Friday, January 31, 2014

STEPHENVILLE, Texas—The Tarleton Anime Club will host its second annual anime convention, TexanCon, on Feb. 14-16. The convention celebrating Japanese animation will include costumes, music, artistry and games, guest panelists and faculty discussions.

Among those scheduled to appear are: R.J. Woods, writer and creator of New Myth Comics, and editorial cartoon editor at Arcadia Magazine; Michael Champion, freelance illustrator and founder of Epic Studios; voice actors Chuck Huber, Chris Cason, Darrel Guilbeau, Sean Chiplock, Josh Goring and Lisle Wilkerson, the voice of “Nina – TEKEN 5”. There will also be performances by the renegade steampunk group The Steam Engine Intrepid, and EVC (Ending The Vicious Cycle), a post-punk Gothic-influenced band.

Several student organizations will hold talks during TexanCon, including the award-winning Tarleton Aeronautical Team, and members for the Tarleton chapter of the Society of Physics Students. There will be games, activities and contests throughout the event and dances on Friday and Saturday nights with lock-ins to follow.

The purpose of TexanCon is to raise funds for participating student organizations and scholarships, said convention director Margaret Risher. “Our first event was a tremendous success thanks to everyone who helped, and our wonderful guests. It is our dream to make this a reoccurring event to raise money for student scholarships. There is also a silent auction open to the public for the Wounded Warrior Project.”

Donations for the auction can be dropped off at the Wounded Warrior booth at the vendor space in the Barry B. Thompson Student Center.

The cost for tickets purchased online until Feb. 13 is $45 for adults and $30 for students 16 and older. Admission at the door is $55 for adults, $45 for students and $20 for children. Single-day tickets are also available for $20 for Friday, $30 for Saturday and $15 for Sunday.

Risher said more than 700 people are expected to attend TexanCon.
