STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Three teams comprised of six Tarleton students are competing this week in the 2013 BoatUS Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship, held at Pickwick Lake near Florence, Ala., May 22-24.

The students are members of the Tarleton Bass Club and are competing in a field of nearly 200 teams of collegiate bass anglers from 26 states and Canada, and representing more than 100 colleges. Representing Tarleton are three teams comprised of Zack Jones and Colt Farris, Hunter Edwards and Gary Hughes, and Kehl Robbins and Austin Brown.

Last year, Tarleton’s Bo Johnson and Casey Bennett finished 45th out of 181 teams, and in 2011 Matt Carr and Cody Morrison came in 7th place out of 144 teams.

Tournament organizers say this year’s collegiate bass fishing championship will provide “unparalleled virtual participation” with a “media presence unlike any other college fishing event to date.” It will include a “From the Water Blog,” powered by Dodge Ram, which will start to transmit on Monday. Daily photo galleries from the cameras of professional photographers will be posted on Facebook and the Association of College Anglers’ website. Daily weigh-ins will also be streamed live at 2:30 p.m. and details can be found on

The bass fishing championship is the nation’s largest collegiate fishing event each year. The collegiate team with the heaviest weight over the course of two competition days will be crowned national champions at an awards ceremony immediately following the weigh-in on Friday.
