STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Elizabeth Johnson, coordinator of Tarleton’s Military Veterans Services Center, was elected secretary of the Texas Association of Collegiate Veterans Program Officials at the annual statewide conference held in Corpus Christi in early March.

The association was founded 35 years ago and serves to promote the development, improvement and extension of educational opportunities to veterans and their dependents.

The association’s membership is comprised of close to 40 educational institutions in the state of Texas, including two- and four-year colleges and universities, community colleges, fire training academies etc.

Tarleton’s Military Veterans Services Center opened in November 2011 to help veterans achieve their educational goals and go on to gainful employment. It also develops projects to unite university veterans with the local community and promote student involvement in the Student Veterans Association.

Dr. James Vardalis, department head and associate professor of criminal justice, is the center’s director.
