STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Outdoor Pursuits is gearing up for Spring Break and will sponsor an adventure trip to the Texas Gulf Coast for interested students who want to enjoy a getaway at the beach.

The three-day, two-night trip, planned for March 11-13 at Goose Island State Park near Rockport, will include camping, beachcombing and fishing during Tarleton’s Spring Break—all for just $50 per student, said Craig Warren, graduate assistant with Recreational Sports/Outdoor Pursuits and trip coordinator. The registration fee includes transportation, meals, park entry fees and camping equipment.

The deadline to sign-up for the trip is Wednesday, March 6. That evening at 7:30, a pre-trip meeting will be held at the Outdoor Pursuits Center for those traveling to Rockport.

Goose Island State Park, located on Aransas Bay at the southern tip of Lamar Peninsula, features 321 acres and is home to “The Big Tree,” thought to be one of the largest Live Oaks in the nation (with a trunk 35 feet in circumference) and estimated to be more than 1,000 years old.

The mainland portion of the park is comprised of live oak forest and saltgrass prairies, while the island portion is an oyster shell island surrounded by marshes, seagrass beds and oyster reefs. Prime fishing opportunities for red drum, speckled trout and flounder are also available from the park’s pier and shoreline.
