STEPHENVILLE, Texas—The TSU Upward Bound Project will host its annual Academic Bowl on the Tarleton campus this weekend. The annual event, held each June since the mid-1980s, includes various academic and athletic competitions.

Approximately 500 college bound students will take part. They represent the following Upward Bound projects: Tarleton State University Upward Bound; Weatherford College Upward Bound; University of North Texas Upward Bound; University of North Texas Math and Science; University of Texas at Arlington Upward Bound; and University of Texas at Arlington Math and Science.

Upward Bound provides fundamental support to participants in their preparation for college entrance. The program provides opportunities for participants to succeed in pre-college performance and ultimately in higher education pursuits.

Tarleton State University's Upward Bound serves high school students from low-income families and high school students from families in which neither parent holds a college degree and who are preparing to enter postsecondary education. The goal of Upward Bound is to increase the rates at which participants enroll in and graduate from institutions of postsecondary education.

Upward Bound, fully funded by the U.S. Department of Education, is a no-cost program. Tarleton has hosted the Upward Bound Project since 1980.
