Tarleton State University Reduces Cost of Housing for Students

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Tuesday, July 14, 2020

STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Tarleton State University students will see a decrease in on-campus residential rates for the upcoming academic year thanks to approval this spring by The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents to purchase private student housing projects and terminate ground leases.

Students could save up to $500 per semester depending on their residence hall. The new rates are reflected in fall invoices being distributed this week.

“This is a huge win for our institution, our students and their parents,” said university President James Hurley. “In the midst of the financial uncertainty created by COVID-19, we want to do everything we can to make a Tarleton degree more affordable.

“We are extremely grateful to A&M System Chancellor John Sharp and the Board of Regents for their support and commitment to student success.”

Buying private student housing and terminating ground leases enables Tarleton to lower debt service and, given historically low interest rates, allows the university to pass those savings along to on-campus residential students.

Tarleton will resume in-person instruction in August while implementing extensive social distancing modifications.
