FORT WORTH, Texas—Students at Tarleton State University’s Fort Worth center today created a fund for donations to add student-focused enhancements to the first building planned for the new university campus on the Chisholm Trail Parkway.

“We are launching the Fort Worth Student Building Fund,” said Janice Horak, assistant vice president of development at Tarleton. “We’re very excited to see this fund grow. It’s part of an amazing, grassroots groundswell.”

The announcement came as part of the university’s 24-hour “Day of Giving” and in response to student wishes to make sure the new building has the extra amenities that students will want and need.

Groundbreaking for the new building on the 80-acre site donated by the Walton Group of Companies is slated for later this year, with an anticipated completion date in 2019.  The building will serve both academic and student activity functions as the first structure on the brand-new campus.

Tuesday’s announcement came as part of campus-wide Day of Giving ceremonies. The second annual Day of Giving is expected to surpass the $141,000 raised in last year’s event.
