STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Tarleton Department of Mathematics students won third place in the state at the 94th annual meeting of the Texas Section of the Mathematical Association of America Calculus Bowl held April 5.

The students traveled to Laredo’s Texas A&M International University for this year’s competition where they competed against 22 teams. The team members include mathematics majors Ian Coleman, Janine Prukop and Michael Rubio, and mathematics and physics majors Chris Marble and Travis Salzillo.

“The team we put together was a fantastic team with a lot of talent,” said Dr. Jeremiah Bass, assistant professor of mathematics and team adviser. “They did a great job and put on display the kind of real talent we have here at Tarleton.”

Dr. Bryant Wyatt, head of the department, said, “Scholarly events such as the MAA-Texas Section Calculus Bowl provide a great opportunity for students to sharpen their mathematical skills and experience an intense competition. We are extremely proud of each team member and how they represented our university.”
