STEPHENVILLE, Texas—For the third-straight year, staff from Tarleton State University’s Department of Marketing and Communications have earned recognition from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).

Tarleton took top honors for design, single spread, in its 2013 Tarleton magazine, an annual publication produced by the Division of Advancement and External Relations and distributed to alumni, friends of the university and other key constituents. CASE judges presented this year’s Gold Award for “The War That Never Ends.”

Tarleton also won a Silver Award for feature writing, more than 1,000 words, for “The War That Never Ends,” by contributing writer Kathryn Jones, an adjunct instructor in Tarleton’s Department of Communication Studies. The article concerned returning war veterans and the demons of post-traumatic stress disorder.

Tarleton’s Texan Transition Week schedule and Freshman Survival Guide booklet also received a Silver Award. The 30-page, full-color booklet was presented to more than 2,300 freshmen upon their arrival on campus last fall for Transition Week. The booklet was produced in cooperation with staff from the Division of Student Life.

Staff from Advancement and External Relations received the award Monday, April 14, during the CASE District IV Conference held in Houston.

“Winning CASE awards three years in a row is an extraordinary achievement for any university and particularly remarkable for an institution our size” said Dr. Rick Richardson, senior vice president for advancement and external relations. “This recognition is attributable to the great work of a team of exceptionally talented professionals, which includes Janice Horak, Alyson Chapman, Joe Michael Feist, Kurt Mogonye and Jessee Horwedel from Tarleton’s marketing and communications department, and Caleb Chapman from the Division of Student Life, Kathryn Jones and Molly Murphy, our independent graphic artist.”

CASE District IV Accolades Awards are presented to community colleges, independent schools, and four-year institutions for outstanding achievement within 70 categories, including alumni relations, communications, design, marketing and more.
