STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Tarleton and The Texas A&M University System recognized Dr. Ruby Barker and Dr. Dan Collins as Dean Emeritus in honor of their service to the College of Business Administration during a reception hosted by President F. Dominic Dottavio.

Collins was named the college’s second dean, serving in that capacity from 1994 until 2001 when he stepped down to return to full-time teaching. He provided 37 years of service to Tarleton, joining the faculty in September 1975 following a five-year career as a public school teacher in Fort Worth. He retired from the university at the conclusion of the spring 2013 term.

He also served as chairman of the Department of Computer Information Systems and Management, and prior to that Collins was an account executive, system design and development specialist for Control Systems Inc. in Fort Worth.

Collins earned his bachelor of science degree in physics and mathematics education from the University of North Texas, his master’s in mid-management and applied mathematics from Texas Christian University and his doctorate in higher education administration and business computer information systems at UNT.

Barker succeeded Collins as dean of the college in September 2001, and served the college in that role until stepping down in 2007 to return to full-time instruction. Barker continued to teach until May 2011 when she retired.

She joined the Tarleton faculty in 1972 and taught numerous courses including office administration, general business, management and business law, among others.

Barker received her bachelor’s degree in business education from West Texas A&M University and her master’s in secondary education from Tarleton, at which time she began teaching as an adjunct faculty member. She completed post-graduate work at Texas A&M University-Commerce and earned her doctorate in business education from UNT.
