Professors of piano, violin partner for Valentine's Day recital

STEPHENVILLE, Texas—The Department of Fine Arts will present a Valentine’s Day recital featuring romantic music for violin and piano by guest violinist Dr. Peter Isaacson and Dr. Leslie Spotz, associate professor of piano at Tarleton.

The recital, set for Friday, Feb. 14 at 7:30 p.m., will be in the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center theater. Admission is free.

Dr. Isaacson is associate professor of violin at Hardin-Simmons University and director of the university orchestra. With music degrees from the Juilliard School of Music he has performed throughout the United States, England and most recently in Milan, Italy.

Over the last decade, Isaacson has served as conductor for the Abilene Collegiate Orchestra, Abilene Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and the Faculty Chamber Orchestra at Encore/Coda. He has also served as director of the Abilene Summer Music Festival for the past decade.

Dr. Spotz has established an international performing career spanning nearly 30 years and including solo performances in Tchaikovsky Hall of Moscow Conservatory, Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., London’s South Bank Center, several solo tours of Germany, recent solo performances in Italy and Taiwan, and her all-Chopin recital in New York City in 2010 for the Chopin Bicentennial.

The Valentine’s Day program will include the Romantic Franck “Sonata for Violin and Piano,” along with “Suite Italienne” by Stravinsky among other selections.
