Effective Schools Project gains statewide award

STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Tarleton, through its Jim Boyd Effective Schools Project, is one of five Texas universities to receive the Quest for Quality Award for exemplary K-12 partnerships given by the Center for Research, Evaluation and Advancement of Teacher Education.

The center is a consortium of The University of Houston System, The Texas A&M University System, The Texas State University System, and The University of Texas System. It works to provide opportunities for member institutions and the teaching profession at large to systematically explore quality and effectiveness issues related to teacher preparation, retention, and student achievement.

For the past 25 years, Tarleton’s Effective Schools Project has collaborated with public schools to improve the quality of education from kindergarten through college. ‚Ä®‚Ä®Professional development activities sponsored by the project have included workshops delivered by nationally recognized educators, planning retreats, the annual recognition of an outstanding teacher and administrator, and the publication of the Journal of the Effective Schools Project.

Dr. Kenneth Estes, associate superintendent of Alvarado ISD, provided support for the Effective Schools Project’s application for the Quest for Quality Award. He said the partnership between Alvarado schools and Tarleton “has provided Alvarado with high quality professional learning and prescriptive support that improves learning for all our students.”
