Concerts to feature diverse sounds

STEPHENVILLE, Texas—The sounds of drums, jazz, Brahms and the Pistol Annies will resonate from the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center next week as Department of Fine Arts presents three concerts.

The department will present a percussion concert at 7:30 p.m.  Monday, Nov. 18, in the auditorium of the fine arts center. It will feature the TSU Percussion Ensemble and include works by David Gillingham, Nebojsa Jovan Zivkovic and Dizzy Gillespie. Also performing will be several percussion chamber groups, including the World Drum Ensemble, with a special appearance by the TSU Trumpet Ensemble. The Percussion Ensemble is under the direction of Michael Crawford. 

Tickets are $5 or free with a Tarleton ID. The box office will open one hour before the concert starts and all seating is general admission.

Jazz Ensembles I & II will perform at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 21 in the Auditorium of the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center. The concert, “Solos and Features,” will feature different sections of the jazz bands, along with some of Tarleton's outstanding soloists. Tickets are $5 or free with a Tarleton ID, and all seats are general admission. The box office opens one hour before the concert. A pre-concert "Coffee and Combos" will be held in the gallery at 7 p.m.

Vocal major Andrea Rydell will present her senior recital at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 22 in the theater of the fine arts center. Her recital will feature music by Brahms, Gluck, Strauss, deFalla, Schumman, the Animals and Pistol Annies. Featured performers will be Kayla Lincoln, Jennifer Ochoa, Corey Warthman, Sam White, Waylon Glover and P.J. Ramirez. Accompanist is Steve Chambers. Admission is free and there will be a reception immediately after the recital.
