STEPHENVILLE, Texas—For the second year in a row, Tarleton has a record high enrollment. The count on the 12th day of class showed an official enrollment of 10,940 students, a 6.5 percent increase over last year’s count of 10,281 students.

The number includes 8,145 students at the Stephenville campus, 1,434 in Fort Worth, 962 at McLennan Community College in Waco, 214 at Navarro College in Midlothian and 185 online only.

The freshman class numbers 2,350 students, another record for the largest number of freshmen in the history of Tarleton. That number includes 1,830 new, first time in college students. Freshmen enrollment has grown by 48 percent in the past four years.

“Clearly there is an increased interest in Tarleton that can be attributed to a number of factors,” said Dr. David Weissenburger, associate vice president of enrollment management. “Those include a relatively low cost to attend, a student-focused culture, excellent programs and accomplished faculty, strategic recruitment and enrollment management, successful sports teams, a beautiful main campus and a wide variety of student services.”

The number of students continuing their studies at Tarleton also grew by nearly 7 percent this fall, Weissenburger said. “This means more students are staying at Tarleton once they start here. And for those who started somewhere else, the number of transfer students grew by over 11 percent this fall. Students everywhere are discovering that Tarleton is a great place to get an education.”

Other statistics show Tarleton’s name and programs are gaining statewide recognition, Weissenburger added. In fall 2010, applicants came from 820 different high schools in Texas; in fall 2013, they came from 1,337 different high schools.  Likewise, in fall 2010, transfer applicants came from 230 different colleges and universities; in fall 2013, they have come from 313 different colleges and universities.

Tarleton had nearly 10,000 applicants for this fall, a 9 percent increase over last year and a 52 percent increase over the number of applicants in 2010. The total number of students and guests taking hosted tours this past year was nearly 8,000, and in the past two years combined there were about 15,400 tour visitors.
