STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Tarleton has received two grants totaling $170,740 from the Texas Pioneer Foundation to build and equip two mobile visitor center trailers designed by Magnum Trailers in Austin.

The two trailers, pulled by three-quarter ton pick-ups, will be used in university outreach efforts to provide materials and information to individuals who want to learn more about the process of applying and gaining admission to an institution of higher education, said Dr. Kim Rynearson, assistant vice president for outreach and off campus programs. One trailer will be assigned to school relations at the Stephenville campus and will focus on engaging high school students, particularly first generation college students. The second trailer, based at Tarleton’s Southwest Metroplex Center in Fort Worth, will focus on outreach to Tarleton’s top academic partner community colleges to promote bachelor degree completion among first generation college students.

The two trailers and their companion pick-ups will be wrapped tip-to-tail in Tarleton colors and images, Rynearson said.

“They will be like two rolling billboards and a tribute to Tarleton traditions, one of our core values,” she added. “They will help create awareness of Tarleton while serving to encourage participation in college. Each of the trailers will have a website, Facebook page and Twitter account so their travels will be easy to follow.”

Each mobile visitor center will be wheelchair accessible and equipped with satellite Internet access, 21 laptop computers, two 42-inch televisions and a public address system to facilitate presentations to large groups. Visitors will be able to learn about the college and financial assistance application process, complete college applications and other required documents, obtain information about Tarleton’s academic programs and speak to recruiters about college life.

The Texas Pioneer Foundation is a private, independent foundation based in San Marcos that provides funding to support access and success in post-secondary education.
