STEPHENVILLE, Texas—For the fourth consecutive season, both the Tarleton Texans and TexAnns have earned berths in the NCAA Division II national championship tournaments.

The NCAA basketball committees on Sunday announced the field of 64 teams that will compete for the national title, which in the men’s bracket includes the Texans who received an automatic bid after winning the Lone Star Conference’s (LSC) tournament Saturday evening by defeating Midwestern State, 53-50.

For the fifth time in school history and the fourth-straight season, the TexAnns will continue play into the post-season after receiving the South Central Region tournament’s No. 7 seed. The TexAnns finished the regular season with a 19-9 record and 14-6 in LSC play. Tarleton advanced to the semifinals of the LSC championship tournament last week before falling to Midwestern State, 100-83.

The TexAnns will begin tournament play by seeking revenge on a familiar foe—Midwestern State—who earned the No. 2 seed in the region. The tournament will be played in Grand Junction, Colo., on the campus of Colorado Mesa University, which earned the top seed.

The Texans (20-9) received the South Central Region tournament’s No. 8 seed and will face No. 1 seed and regional host, Metro State University (27-2), on their home court in Denver, Colo. The Roadrunners earned an automatic bid to the postseason with its victory over Fort Lewis in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament.

Twenty-two conferences have been awarded automatic qualification. The remaining 42 teams were selected at-large by the NCAA tournament committee. Regional tournaments, consisting of eight teams each, will be conducted March 16, 17 and 19 at regional sites.
