Jazz ensembles to present Stan Kenton tribute concert

STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Tarleton’s Department of Fine Arts will present a concert featuring Jazz Ensembles I and II, under the direction of Greg Ball, Thursday, Feb. 21, at 7:30 p.m. in the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center theatre.

The concert will feature music by jazz great Stan Kenton (1911-1979). A pianist, composer and arranger, Kenton was influential in expanding the big band sound with his two-time Grammy Award-winning 23-piece orchestra. Kenton is known for creating the famous “Kenton Sound,” which features parts for a mellophone section and bass saxophone in his compositions.

Admission is $5 for adults or free with a Tarleton ID. Tickets go on sale one hour before the concert and all seating is general admission.
